we bait with last summer’s ling heads
drop the rings
drift off.
15 minutes or half a beer
quick hoist, lurch over
and spiny crabs
scuttling everywhere
females and smaller males
plucked overboard
big males in the bucket
they will die, be eaten
and we will live, in grand fashion
