Intergenerational Poetry is a workshop to write collaborative poetry for pairs of people from different generations — kids and parents, kids and grandparents, adults and parents, maybe just someone you want to get to know better who’s younger or older than yourself. The younger partner should be at least 10; a difference of at least 20 years in age is suggested. The instructor will lead participants through a step-by-step process to create a collaborative poem. Experienced and novice writers are welcome. Each pair of writers will generate at least one “fun” poem and one more serious poem intended to explore connections between generations.

Whatcom Land Trust Great Outdoors Auction
Luther Allen will donate a half-day nature-based poetry workshop and a copy of The View from Lummi Island to the highest bidder at the 11th Annual Great Outdoors Auction, Saturday, May 7, 2011, 5:00 to 9:00 pm, at the Best Western Lakeway Inn in Bellingham.

The mission of the Whatcom Land Trust is to preserve and protect wildlife habitat, scenic, agricultural and open space lands in Whatcom County for future generations by securing interests in land and promoting land stewardship.

Tickets are $75 per person and $500 for a table of 8. This terrific event sells out every year. To reserve, call 360-650-9470.

Noon – 2:00pm, Luther Allen will join winners of the second annual Whatcom READS Writing Contest, who will be reading their winning selections on the topic of “borders.”

6:00pm, Luther Allen will be one of the featured poets in a regional celebration of National Poetry Month.
