beach pebbles on Lummi Island

wild-strewn cobble
of stones on the beach
placed           exactly
in the neatswept sand
by wave and wind

in perfect alignment           with

               every adjoining rock
               by color, by space, by size

               every planet, every star

               every thought, every hope
               all future, all past

an astrology of scatter
