October 31*

crossing to Lummi

ferry waiting at gooseberry point
pelts of rain nattering on truck
cheerful blue steel superstructure
the three red barricade lights flashing patiently
draining, dribbling down the windshield

the raised ramp running out
to a dull greygreen passage
surface chopped with white
rolling, rolling with long wind
and enclosing cloud
