February 20*

indian plum

foraging
i bring back
one stem of each
bloomer and budder

plopped into vase
“bouquet”
nipped for art, love
kept from their real work

i pray
there will be no reciprocity—
none of our more beguiling parts
plucked, displayed in some thicket
