December 16*

after the rain

the next morning
it has passed and
we are held
in stillness

walking to the point, the road
littered with the soft lovely tips of fir
          bright dismembered branches
          on the wet black pavement

we understand to breathe deeply
relieved it is not us
aware, thankful
to begin once again
