July 29*

Lummi Island full moon

on the beach, night
full moon, low tide
no clouds

the landscape a jumble of light and lesser light

senses awry—the world is
          black, lesser black, blacker
          glitter/non-glitter
grey, grey holding more light, grey holding less light

some edges tight, precise
others scumbled, evanescent

the waves, enigmatic and profound
adamant pulses of light/dark

and i am here, there          reflected and scattered
anchored only by the aged contrails
                                                                                        of fleeing stars
