the view from Lummi Island ~ photo by Luther Allen

what has grown
into a basic need:

a vista, to a far horizon
with no trace of artifact—just “nature”

looking about the same
for a thousand years, ten thousand years

day after day
season after season

and at one point, far back,
never seen by man
